Out of one house and into another.

I worked at a clothing manufacturer for a year after high school because I had no idea what I wanted to be when “I grew up” and didn’t want to waste money going to college if I wasn’t sure.  It was an eye-opening experience for sure and one that I am glad to have been through.  During that year, my Mom and I were having a conversation about working, She had not worked outside of the house since before we were born and was looking for a way to make some money of her own.  I suggested she try to get a job where I worked, she didn’t drive and…

If you could create a new position for yourself in any company, what would it be and where?

Most of us have had to work a good part of our lives and some of us have had the opportunity to do work that we love. Some of us have not. But if you went to bed tonight and dreamt of a dream job, in a dream company, what would you dream up? I pondered this question quite a bit. I thought I might love to be a chocolate tester at Hershey. I thought I might love to push a coffee cart around at Starbucks headquarters to all the employees – offering a beverage and some chatter. But after a lot of pondering, I came up with “Magic Moment…

What is the hardest physical work you have ever done?

Hard work is certainly relative and different for every single one of us.  But we can all agree that we have spent time doing something that was physically taxing. Scroll on down to see what both Pam and Ellen deem to be their hardest. My career was not physical– it was a desk job. So, I started to rack my brain to think of something in my personal life that could qualify as the “hardest”; moving houses, flood cleanup and remodeling, shoveling yards of mulch or sand over the years. While all of these were hard work, I realized that participating in natural childbirth for all three of my children…

May May May!!! Things are starting to look so GREEN and we are loving this time of year. We are exploring the world of volunteering today.  Do you have a favorite charity that you would like to help at?  Ellen and Pam talk a little bit about the volunteering that they have done in the past and would like to do in the future My life at the moment is quite busy and I do not currently volunteer for anything, but there are lots of ideas running through my head.  In the past, I have sat at the bedside of the dying as a trained Hospice Volunteer, I have shaved…

Can you think of a time when you had more responsibility than you could handle?

Responsibilities. We all have them in varying degrees and they change as we age. The question we are posing today is about feeling overwhelmed in those responsibilities. Have you ever felt that way? Ellen and Pam have – scroll down to see when. There was a time in my professional career when I was promoted from programmer to Programming Manager. Three programmers and an assistant now reported to me and while I felt 100% capable of handling this new position and all that it entailed, there were certain things that it added to my life.  Extra hours each week were devoted to the managerial/admin duties that came with having people…

What job taught you the most about yourself as a person?

Jobs. We have all had them, some we liked, some we hated, some we just tolerated. But this question is about the job that taught us most about ourselves. My gap year. The one where I worked as an order picker in a clothing company. The one where my ideas on how to do my job better were greeted with disdain and sarcasm. The one where I realized that I needed a job where I could use my brain, one that afforded variety, one where I would have the opportunity to voice my opinion/ideas and script the work I would be doing. I will be forever grateful for that year. …

Have you had a life event that changed you forever?

Click our names below to find out what we think ours are. Do you think you have? Scroll down to the comments section and leave us your story. We’d love to hear from you. I think that life events change you, that is what they are supposed to do.  To mold you into the human you are today.  We all have different events that change us in little ways – births/deaths, marriages/partnerships, divorces/breakups, job losses/gains and on and on.  But I did not have to contemplate this question – the one event that I feel changed me forever was the loss of my Mom.  I saw an article recently from…
