Describe your memories of a piece of furniture from your childhood.

What piece of furniture from your childhood can still bring a smile to your face today when you think of it? I grew up around LOTS of antiques.  Furniture and more. We were constantly taught by my grandparents to be careful of every heirloom and learned a reverence of sorts for each piece we passed. There were so many pieces that I was intrigued with as a kid but none more than a set of children’s chairs.  These flanked my grandparent’s fireplace in the main salon. (I went online to see if I could find a picture and this is the closest I could come up with. ) According to…

If you had been able to choose, would you have wanted to be an only child or part of a large family?

Family dynamics can sometimes be difficult – if you had been able to choose, and aren’t an only child already, would you have wanted to be one – or to be part of a large family instead? I loved having both a sister and a brother.  I was smack dab in the middle. I can honestly say I’ve never considered anything else – more kids or less. I believe that I would have been extremely lonely over the years – my siblings have been there since the beginning – they know all about you – your family values /history and while there have been times that we have disagreed, we…

What is a memory you’d like to be able to erase?

Every memory we have brings us to where we are today but there are some that either bring us discomfort or are hard to remember. Today we are wondering if there is something in your past that you wish had gone differently or hadn’t “gone” at all. ** disclaimer –  hard to read embarrassing post ahead ** One memory that I’d love to be able to erase will not be an easy one for me to write or for you to read – but it is time this one is put out there I suppose. Looking back over my teen years, I have come to a few realizations about my…

What is a memory you have related to a campfire?

Some people love campfires while others do not at all….where do you fall in the debate and do you have a favorite memory about sitting around a campfire? It is rather apropos that we are talking about campfires this week. The campground where I have a seasonal site just opened this past weekend, and we had our first campfire. It was a disaster.   We were trying to get rid of the pine needles and cones that we had raked up while cleaning up our site.  We soon discovered that one of the six bags we raked was all we would be burning, for it created a lot of smoke and…

What is your favorite family heirloom?

Some of us have things from previous generations. Some of us have LOTS of things, some NONE. If you have any, do you have a favorite? This is what we are talking about today, Pam and Ellen definitely have picked something they favor above others. I have family heirlooms. Mostly paper.  Mostly things that I have to go through and figure out what I should do with.  Ephemera, family letters, family papers, mostly my grandparents, lots and lots of papers. Then there are a few things I can hold in my hand – pictures, doodads, and mostly things that hold memories for me.  They hold a special place at home…

What is the hardest physical work you have ever done?

Hard work is certainly relative and different for every single one of us.  But we can all agree that we have spent time doing something that was physically taxing. Scroll on down to see what both Pam and Ellen deem to be their hardest. My career was not physical– it was a desk job. So, I started to rack my brain to think of something in my personal life that could qualify as the “hardest”; moving houses, flood cleanup and remodeling, shoveling yards of mulch or sand over the years. While all of these were hard work, I realized that participating in natural childbirth for all three of my children…

If you could be teleported anywhere in the world, where would you go?

teleport [ˈteləˌpôrt] VERB teleported (past tense) · teleported (past participle) (especially in science fiction) transport or be transported across space and distance instantly.  In some situations, teleporting is time traveling across space. Where would you go? Originally contemplating this question, I was imagining going somewhere to view something that I had dreamed about – i.e. – travel destinations, a bucket list destination.  And then, I read the last line of the above definition: In some situations, teleporting is time traveling across space. Time Travel.  YES!!!! So, I would definitely go back to the year 1977 – the year after I graduated and since I am fantasizing about this – let’s pick a Saturday…

Who would you like to sing a duet with and what song would you like to sing?

Can you imagine singing a duet with someone?  Would you like to share with us who?  It was fun for Pam and Ellen to contemplate this question – scroll down to see who they picked. Oh, if only I could carry a tune!  Always wanted to be a singer but alas I am not. That isn’t the question though, is it?  So, to answer this question, I have to pretend that I at least have the ability to connect with notes and stay on pitch so I am not embarrassed to stand on stage and sing. Done. You know, one of my very favorite songs is 93 Million Miles by…

What character from a childhood TV show brings back the happiest memories?

What did you watch when you were young? Can you remember one childhood TV show or character who brought you the most joy? Someone you looked forward to seeing each week? We did not watch a ton of TV in our house when I was under 10 that I can remember.  I do remember spending HOURS in our playroom, whether playing school or house.  I never watched cartoons – which back then were on Saturday mornings only. But the shows that I do remember from that age were: Romper Room – I think I grew weary of waiting for her to call my name and went on to other things.…

    Celebrating October!

Sometimes life throws you a curveball.  October threw us a month filled with THINGS. Ever have a month where you were so busy living that you lost track of all time? We took a deep breath and decided to pause our questions – they will return in the 2nd week of November. In the meantime, let us share with you some of those beautiful Things that happened in October. October 5th – Pam’s grandson drove up for a visit from North Carolina.  The last time we saw him was in June at his high school graduation.  He came up to see Pam’s seasonal getaway for the first time and to…
