How sweet are these pictures?

I see a loving grandmother cuddling with her adoring grandson.  This is a pose that I have assumed with all five of my grandchildren and now with my great-grandson.  I can relate to her contentment.

At the time of these photos, Craig lived in the carriage house on the property of my grandparents, so I know that it was very easy for them to have moments like this together.

Unfortunately, by the time I arrived some seven years later, my grandmother was going through some heavy health issues and was not the same person as in these photos.  I did not see Beemaw smile often, nor do I ever remember snuggling with her.  She was consumed with pain and issues relating to that.

I look at both of these pictures and rather than feel regret for myself, I feel grateful that Craig had this time with our grandmother.

These pictures of our grandmother, Beema, with our brother Craig are so touching, and frankly, nothing I ever recall experiencing with her myself.

I am not sure if she was possibly not healthy by the time Pam and I came along or if life circumstances had jaded her outlook, but most of my memories of Beema are of her being angry about something, or possibly sad.

It makes my heart happy to see this side of her and to know that it existed at some point. She looks happy to have Craig in her arms, to be surrounded by his love – and isn’t that what life is really all about? <3
